Story

Throughout history, roses have been cherished for their enchanting beauty and delightful aroma. Interestingly, if the cultivation of roses goes back to the Indus Valley civilization, it wasn't until the 15th century that they began to be appreciated for their culinary applications when the Mughal Emperors, particularly the Empress Nur Jahan (1577-1645), introduced the technique of rose distillation in India to produce attars and rosewater.

This tea is dedicated to my mother, who shares a deep love for roses with her father, and was named Noorjahan in her honour.

Our expertly crafted rose tea showcases a sophisticated combination of three layers of tea leaves, made with our in-house Ceylon special blend. It includes a base of long twisted leaves special OPA (Orange Pekoe-A) giving a rich forest-like notes and slight roasted taste with dried fruits and raisin tones, a middle layer of "low-grown Ceylon (low altitude sunny gardens) for colour and strength, and a top layer of "medium-grown" Ceylon from cooler gardens for light zesty notes. 

We scented it with a lavish combination of 6 roses: Honeyed citrusy Mohammadi Persian rose petals, Indian rose petals, Egyptian rose petals, Turkish rose petals, French rose de mai and Bulgarian rose essential oils. Hints of South African rose geranium essence, French lavender buds, and Moroccan orris butter bring powdery earthy rosy subnotes to back this ode to rose.

Blend

Base: Ceylon tea blend (special OPA, "low-grown", "medium-grown" teas)
Essential oil accord: French rose de mai essential oil, Bulgarian rose essential oil, Egypt rose geranium oil, Morocco orris butter.
Botanical inclusions: Persian Mohammadi rose (petals and buds), Indian rose petals, Turkish rose petals, Egyptian rose petals, French lavender buds, Egyptian safflower petals, Egyptian blue cornflower petals, Egyptian calendula petals, Persian borage flowers.

Vegan, no added flavours or preservatives.

How-to

Steeping: Add 0.5 teaspoon of tea per cup in filtered boiled water (96°C / 205°F) and steep for 3-5 minutes. Keep refilling your pot with pot water to bring interesting secondary notes till the brew has no more scent.

Uses: Enjoy as it or reveal the blissful floral notes of our tea with a dash of lemon. You may also add milk to soften its briskness and emphasize its deeper rosy flavour. Makes a beautiful summer iced tea garnished with edible rose petals.

Perfect pairing

DAIRY AND DESSERT: Cheese, pecan pie, pumpkin pie.

DISHES: Red meat, smoked fish.
